Black Ants

Black ants are a common cause of frustration for Brisbane property owners! Due to ants being social insects they live on mass in colonies and if they are disturbed or they have a change in food supply they can move their entire colonies to another location making them difficult to treat and eliminate.

There are hundreds of native species of ants, some associated with timber, but none of the ant species present in Australia damages timber which is in good condition. In domestic and industrial situations they can become a constant cause of annoyance with nesting in wall cavities, ceiling spaces and behind skirting boards. Internal nests can be very difficult to eradicate so a skilled specialist is required. The black house ant is 2-3 mm in size and as the name suggests they are black in colour.

Funnel ants

Named after the cone-shaped entrance of their nests, funnel ant colonies can severely affect the stability of your lawn, making it uneven and increasingly difficult to walk on. It’s widely known that funnel ants can excavate up to two feet down into the soil before they start moving laterally, making a complex maze of underground tunnels and nests, this can compromise the stability of your lawn. If funnel ants nests are compromised they can become aggressive and fight back with quite a sting for any unwitting victim.

Please be aware that D.I.Y. attempts to rid your lawn of funnel ants are unlikely to have an impact, especially over time.  Treatment needs to be injected down every single funnel and must come into contact with the entire colony.

Coastal Brown Ants

Coastal brown ants are known to nest between pavers and along pathways and will cause destruction by throwing out soils. They also infest wall cavities, leaving piles of debris at the nest entrance. Nests can become very large.

Singapore Ant

The Singapore ants move slowly in single file and continuous trails. Singapore ants are very destructive as they can chew through plastic and rubber. Beware they can bite and sting!

Green Headed Ants

They do not usually enter houses but can be a nuisance in gardens, where they nest in lawns and rockeries. Nests are easily located. Beware the greenhead ant can inflict a very painful sting.
